Why the Question Culture Website?

The Question Culture site was developed by Paul Brown of Peak Performance to remind himself and to encourage others to think more about being questioning and asking questions.

Paul has a professional interest in questions. As a consultant, he needs questions to uncover information, needs and emotional responses. He recognises the need for his clients to develop a Question Culture as part of their overall Peak (Performance) Culture.

Whether we are young or old, it will always help our professional and private lives if we can sharpen our question skills. Questions are one the simplest forms of communication but sometimes we use them without sufficient thought. Too often we forget to use them. You need to be open-minded to ask a question. Telling people how we see things is often perceived as being much less painful than asking questions if underneath we fear change or are afraid of being challenged. But is it really? Isn't that just our way of hiding from uncovering the truth?

New technologies help us use questions in new ways. The Interactive Presenter technology enables previously passively received presentations and lectures to involve everyone in responding to the questions set by the presenter. Instant Messaging and TXT enable questions to be asked at a distance. This happens in a new social setting that is informal but does not need social niceties to surround the questions. E-mails are all the brighter and more productive for having succinct questions included.

Will there always be we new things that we can learn about questions and using them more effectively? You better believe it!

Acknowledgements

My thanks go to Chris Tubb at University Wales College, Newport for struggling so manfully to get me to ask some of the right questions about building a website fit for promoting a Question Culture.

Thanks also to Dr Ismo Ripatti of Dolphin Interactive, Kupio, Finland for introducing me to the "Interactive Presenter™" & for allowing the use of Dophin Graphics on this site. See about the "Interactive Presenter™" on the dedicated website www.interactivepresenter.com

Thanks to Peter Waegemann and former colleagues at the Medical Records Institute & CAEHR Ltd for the use of the pictures from past TEHRE conferences that I organised when with them. See their site www.medrecinst.com

Also to all those people, friends, family and colleagues, who throughout my life have helped me to a better understanding and know how by drawing my attention to the value of questions, by helping me to be more questioning and by asking me questions that have made me think harder!
